Years ago, as an early twenty something, I was stressed and uncertain about my future. I was going back to college after a mental breakdown, unsure if I was on the right path. I had questions, worries, and no real passion for anything, even the things I was good at.
One day, a thought popped into my head: Why don’t you try drawing? I used to draw as a kid, but I’d stopped for some reason. I picked up a pencil and started doodling in a random notebook. Then I discovered a free digital art software online, downloaded it, and began drawing again. At first, I was terrible but little by little, I got better.
What hooked me wasn’t skill, it was freedom. The freedom to express myself, to create characters I admired, to let out what I felt. After I started drawing in the middle of the night, waking up just to create. That’s when I realized this is what I want to do for the rest of my life.
